AWARENESS PROJECT

Through conversations with nuclear medicine practitioners, the Oncidium foundation identified a clear gap: clinicians needed accessible tools to explain radiotheranostics to newly diagnosed patients and their families in a way that was scientifically accurate yet easy to grasp. Mister Bind and his companions were born from this need: an interactive educational support that turns complex science into a story patients can follow, share with loved ones, and revisit at their own pace.
Mister Bind speaks to three audiences at once:
- People living with cancer and their families, who need clear, reassuring answers to feel confident in the decisions ahead
- Healthcare professionals, who can use Mister Bind as a practical companion to introduce radiotheranostics to their patients
- The wider public, helping demystify nuclear medicine and address common misconceptions about radioactivity in cancer care
Comic book already distributed worldwide.
How the project came to life
The collaboration began in early 2022 with Dr. Jérémie Calais and a network of international nuclear medicine experts. Together, we shaped Mister Bind and his companions, characters who guide patients through the science of radiotheranostics with warmth and clarity. The project has since grown into two complementary formats: a series of educational videos and a comic book, each reinforcing the same mission of accessible patient education.
The educational videos
Two animated episodes of the Mister Bind universe were developed, each tackling one of the most common questions patients ask when radiotheranostics is added to their treatment plan.
Part 1 — What are radiotheranostics for cancer care? A clear introduction to the principle of radiotheranostics: how radioactive molecules are designed to find and treat cancer cells with precision, and why this represents a shift toward more personalized cancer care.
Part 2 — Doctor, will radiotheranostics make me radioactive? This episode addresses one of the most frequent concerns patients raise. Mister Bind walks viewers through what to expect during and after treatment, helping ease worries about safety for patients and those around them.
The comic book
To extend Mister Bind's reach beyond the screen, the team created a tangible companion: a comic book that doubles as a patient follow-up notebook. Belgium's comic strip tradition made this format a natural fit, blending storytelling craft with educational purpose.
Since its launch in 2023, the Mister Bind comic book has been a remarkable success. Originally available in five languages, the comic is being expanded with ten additional translations, bringing the total to 10+ languages and ensuring that patients across the globe can access Mister Bind in their native tongue.
What's next?
The adventures of Mister Bind are far from over. The Oncidium team, together with experts from the nuclear medicine community, is already working on the next edition, expanding the universe with new characters, new questions, and new ways to support patients on their journey.
Stay tuned, Mister Bind has more stories to tell.
